Let’s Talk Hair – Real Talk from Your Photographer

Hair can make a photo feel polished, but let’s be honest — it can also be the first thing that steals your attention if you’re overly focused on it. And while AI can work wonders, it’s not a magic fix for every flyaway or wind-blown strand. Over-editing can distort the authenticity of a photo, and truthfully, heavy AI work comes with added time and cost. I believe in using it as a last resort, not a go-to.

Beach Sessions? Embrace the Breeze.

Beach hair is part of the experience! The breeze, the texture, the movement — all of it adds to the story your photos tell. If the idea of every hair being perfectly in place matters most, the beach may not be your ideal setting. I always tell my clients: the more you focus on perfection, the less you get to be in the moment — and that’s what truly makes beautiful photos.

If you know humidity is a challenge (hello, Florida summers!), here are some tips:

  • Opt for a sunrise session before the heat kicks in.
  • Keep the session short and sweet to beat the frizz.
  • Use lightweight gels or smoothing serums to tame flyaways.
  • Put your partner or spouse on "hair patrol" duty — brushing strands out of your face can create adorable, candid moments that feel natural and romantic.

What About Kids?

Listen, as a mom myself — I get it. My boys never let me touch their hair. Kids will be kids, and their wild curls, untamed strands, or lopsided cowlicks are part of who they are. I’m not here to create perfection; I’m here to capture real moments. If your little one shows up with beach sand in their hair or bedhead energy — we’ll roll with it. Those are the memories you’ll laugh about later (and love even more in the photos).

The takeaway?

Don’t let hair be the reason you stress before or during your session. Show up, breathe, and let me do the rest. A little prep goes a long way, but a relaxed, confident you? That’s what shines most.
